By plane: Madrid’s airport (Aeropuerto de Barajas) is located within 10 kilometres of the city centre, and linked to it via metro, bus or taxi.

By bus to/from Plaza de Colón: from the airport, it leaves from Terminal 1 (international flights) approximately every 15 minutes, and it takes 25 minutes to arrive to the city centre. The oneway ticket costs around 6 €.

By Metro (line 8): the metro station can be found inside the Barajas Airport, and is clearly signalled from all terminals. Madrid’s metro is one of the best and safest subway systems in Europe, and is the most used transportation by madrileños (people from Madrid). It takes about 15 minutes from the airport to the city centre.

By taxi: there is also a taxi stand outside Terminal 1. It is the most comfortable way to go to Madrid, but also the most expensive one.A trip to the city centre can cost the traveller about 30-40 €, and one should always ask the taxi driver about luggage supplements, night and/or holidays fares, etc.

By train: the main train stations in Madrid are: Chamartín station, in the north, and Atocha station, in the south. Both are perfectly connected to the urban transportation system (metro, bus, and taxi).
