Nuestra NEBRIJA 30 - julio 2019

50 In mid-2017, we received from the Vice-Rector for Research the mission of launching a research re- pository that would bring together our University's scientific and academic production, and that could be collected and be pre- sent in other national and inter- national repositories. For years at Nebrija Universi- ty, we had been cataloging the scientific and academic pro- duction of our researchers, professors and stu- dents in our integrated library management sys- tem, AbsysNet. That way, the set from which we were going to start was already created and cata- loged in a standard format which would be easily exportable in any of the programs being utilized in other Spanish university libraries: DSpace, EPrints, Fedora, etc. When we were in the process of budget analysis and interviews with different providers of these tools, we received the news that the next version of our software was going to contain the possibi- lity of using the OAI-PMH communications proto- col (Open Archive Initiative-Protocol for Metadata Harvesting), which would give our AbsysNet the right tool for the data collection procedure and allow us to make this an open and integrable re- pository in different collectors. And at this crossroads we had to make a deci- sion: go towards an added software and create an additional expense in the Library, not only for the initial investment in a new management program but also for the annual mainte- nance that would be necessary, or continue with ours and that the expense only involve the effort of integrating into it a new functionality: that of becoming a repository. So, together with the conviction of avoiding a centrifugal context in the environment, the optimization and exploitation of the resources that we already had and the work procedures as- sociated with them, this convinced us to continue using only one software: AbsysNet. However, we could not work alone on this project: we needed our colleagues from Baratz -owner of AbsysNet-, whom, we believe, were seduced by the idea of developing this potential tool of the program in a collaborative work environment that would work effectively. As testers of its new ver- sions, an understanding had developed between both institutions that facilitated this process. During more than a year of infinite work, we had to determine objectives, debug existing data and bibliographic records, adjust its structure, ensure the minimum conditions of documentary A n easy - to - use and very intuitive tool Olga Álvarez Álvarez.
