Los humanos modernos poseemos un conjunto particular de caracter\u00edsticas biol\u00f3gicas y culturales que nos diferencian del resto de animales. El lenguaje, la habilidad m\u00e1s especial de la naturaleza humana, se ha desarrollado gracias a la extraordinaria inmadurez, plasticidad y capacidad de adaptaci\u00f3n de nuestro enc\u00e9falo. Esta plasticidad permite que el cerebro pueda asumir habilidades socioculturales insospechadas, como si fueran pr\u00f3tesis que a\u00f1adimos a voluntad. Una de estas \u00abpr\u00f3tesis\u00bb es la lectura; una invenci\u00f3n reciente -sin una clara prehistoria evolutiva biol\u00f3gica- que permite acceder a la mente de otras personas a trav\u00e9s de la vista. Xurxo Mari\u00f1o Alfonso has a PhD in Biological Sciences, Professor of the Department of Medicine of the University of A Coru\u00f1a and member of the Neurocom research group. He has collaborated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he did his member of the Neurocom research group. He has published the books \u00abOs dados do reloxeiro\u00bb, \u00abNeuroscience for Julia\u00bb, \u00abEarth\u00bb and \u00abThe conquest of language\u00bb, among others. He participates in scientific divulgation in radio, TV, internet, magazines and press; having collaborated with CRTVG, Onda Cero, \u00abMuy Interesante\u00bb, \u00abFilosof\u00eda Hoy\u00bb; or the websites Culturagalega.org and Naukas.com. In 2018 he received the award in the category of Dissemination at the Gala do Libro Galego for his book \u00abTierra\u00bb, a work that also received a honorable mention in the 2018 PRISMA awards.In 2021 he received the Follas Novas award for his book Unhamente que voa (‘The conquest of language’ in Spanish).
