A practical approach to the influence of landscape and environment in architecture

The Architecture of the territory and landscape Program is taught in collaboration with the prestigious architecture firm RCR Arquitectes, awarded the 2017 Pritzker Prize, and honorary members of the American Institute of Architecture since 2010.

Vall de Bianya, where the course will take place, is a small municipality located between valleys and surrounded by the beautiful landscape of the Volcanic Zone Natural Park, ideal for hiking among its forests and discovering the typical Romanesque churches of the region.

Program Information

Objectives:

  • Analyze the territory and the landscape attending to all the elements that define these areas and concepts.
  • Intensify the analytical abilities of students through different stimuli that are capable of leading to the creation of spaces where playing, listening, living a unique atmosphere is enjoyed.
  • Induce the experiential permeability of students that increases their sensitivity to a specific place.
  • Increase student creativity from a nonconformist and critical position.
  • Develop interdisciplinary thinking and work skills in order to generate significant content responses.
  • Implement work dynamics that lead to deep knowledge of the immediate environment from observation and experience.
  • Increase the reflection ability of students within a specific period.
  • Extrapolate the knowledge acquired to future research and projects in an integrative way.
  • Acquire basic knowledge around landscape architecture.
  • Intensify the project work skills of students within a specific territory.
  • Increase student knowledge about the concepts and links between architecture and the location.
  • Sensitize, through experience, with the characteristic values of the definition of space, nexus of all architecture.
  • Study within an innovative and high-quality training context.

Methodology:Classroom course:

  • 48 sessions (1.5 hours at the “La Vila” facilities)
  • 12 sessions (1.5 h. visit to sites)
  • Study and practical work in “La Vila”
  • Master class series

Schedule: Morning: 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. - Afternoon: 3:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
