Objectives
The LAELE Research Group conducts interdisciplinary research within the field of applied linguistics. Drawing on both psycholinguistic and applied linguistics approaches, the group focuses primarily on the acquisition, processing, teaching, learning, and assessment of foreign languages, particularly Spanish and English.
The group also investigates the role of language in a range of cognitive and social dimensions, including emotion and affective processes. Its research is grounded in empirical methodologies, combining behavioural and electrophysiological studies to advance understanding in these areas.
This broad research agenda is developed through the following lines of research:
Research Areas
- The relationship between core psychological processes — including emotion, memory, and attention — and foreign language acquisition.
- The acquisition, learning, and teaching of Spanish in migration contexts.
- The acquisition, learning, and teaching of vocabulary in second and foreign languages.
- Linguistic identity, intercultural communication, and acculturation processes.
- Language assessment and certification of linguistic competence.
- Language learning and teaching in immersion-based and content-integrated educational settings.
