In recent decades, "identity", both individual and collective, has become one of the focal points of global political and legal debate. In this module we intend to show the link between these discussions and the notions of citizenship and fundamental rights, showing, on the basis of some examples, the impact that the primacy of "identity" has on some assumptions of constitutional democracy. All this debate must start from some fundamental premises concerning the concept and the legal and typological transformations of citizenship.
- First session (3 hours): The concept of citizenship: from Greece to the contemporary world.
- Second session (3 hours): Citizenship and belonging: citizenship and nationality.
- Third session (3 hours): Contemporary typologies of citizenship.
- Fourth session (2 hours): Citizenship and globalisation: towards a post-national citizenship?
- Fifth session (2 hours): Identity and its legal dimensions.
- Session 6 (2 hours): Are there new rights?

"We contribute to society if we educate multilingual and multicultural citizens, capable of transmitting and teaching what they are and what they know through innovative methodologies, with an artistic, creative and critical sense of life".

"This programme is born out of the conviction that the humanities are more necessary than ever in an ever-changing world. Our professors are experts in their fields, but they are also passionate about teaching and interdisciplinary dialogue. Together, we work to train professionals who not only understand the world, but also contribute to transforming it from a humanistic perspective".
Félix Ovejero
"At Nebrija, we encourage constant dialogue. Students are not passive listeners; they are critical interlocutors who debate Rousseau, Kant and Locke while examining the governance of the internet or the limits of freedom of expression in social networks. It's fascinating to see how this intellectual 'click' transforms their perspective: they begin to see the contemporary world through the lens of reason, empathy and civic engagement that defined the great humanists".
